"I want to let you know how truly sorry I am for the loss of Shawn for you and the girls and the rest of your family. It's never easy, but especially hard with someone like Shawn that was such a great person. We worked together for about 10 years. Early on we needed each other's support - to get in shape! We would go work out together in the gym and do P90x together. It was not pretty! But neither of us would have been there without feeling we let each other down. I know when I would occasionally meet him for lunch when he was out I wanted to do whatever I could to give him a pick-me-up. But I was the one that always left built up. I can't imagine how hard it was for him to cope with everything, but he always had a positive outlook. And there was no question what was most important to him - you and the girls."

Shawn was an amazing person that was so intelligent yet he could be a regular guy with family and friends. When life became difficult he held onto hope and seeking to do good. He was good to his family, friends and co-workers, but he went beyond that — he gave to the world inventions that have and will change so many lives for years to come. That’s so remarkable and must come from a person that has a lot of love in his heart. God bless you, Julia and Emily and may you always feel the love that Shawn gave to all of you!

"I was shocked to hear about the loss of Shawn for you and the girls. Shawn was an amazing friend and co-worker for many many years. I shared one of my favorite photos of our Slamabama work softball team as we had so many fun years playing. I hope you are being showered with love and new memories from all those that Shawn impacted. I am praying for all of you to find peace and joy in all the memories. Love, Stacey"

"I worked for Shawn for about 3 - 4 years on the Floyd project. I'm not telling you anything you didn't already know but I knew him to be incredibly smart, funny, insightful, and kind......a class act. He was the gold standard for humans. Throughout his battle I never heard him complain. I'm incredibly lucky to have known him and I can't express how sorry I am for you, your girls, and the rest of Shawn's family and friends to have lost him. Thank you so much for sharing this site. I wish you well. Very Sincerely, Randy Stewart"

One of the most enduring qualities was Shawn's strength throughout his entire illness. Each time I saw him and noticed the change in him physically, his genuine smile and concern for others never left him even as his body was failing. In fact, the last time I saw him was right before the Covid hit and we started working from home. He was riding his cart, (probably heading off to discuss a new idea with someone) and he stopped to say hello and ask how I was doing. Never once throughout our conversation did complain or dwell on his illness. He was genuine man and had a positive impact on others. Our lives are richer because we knew Shawn (even though he was a Duke fan). - Kent Allen
